Why us?

The site's traffic is multiplying beyond my wildest dreams and we are all crazy busy expanding it. If you are thinking of starting your own company sometime in the future, (or) want to work on one of the fastest growing products today, you have come to the right place. I was about to write an elaborate hiring pitch, but I'll let my Google analytics do the job.

We are looking for hacker interns who can come and work with us out here in Palo Alto. Business interns please click here. We've worked at Google & Microsoft before, and have a focused culture. We don't solve any problems other than the business bottlenecks and don't give a shit about efficiency. We break, but move fast. It'll be an intense, but rewarding experience, I promise.

Company

Evan, Prasanna & Shubham started lal - likealittle.com on 25th Oct at Stanford. It has grown today to more than 50 campuses? Er. I'd rather not put a number here, because I'd have to keep changing it every day. ;-)

Platform

We are running on Amazon EC2 machines. The backend is apache/mysql/rails/memcached. We are scaling out into new machines rapidly and are agile.

Roles

User Interface / Front end playboy/playgirl

We don't have a UX person on the team. We try to do a good job by not trying to do much with the UI at all. If you could jump in and add the sex-appeal of LAL that it deserves, history will remember you. ;-) (Atleast we will.)

Browser compatibility expert

In a single word: I.E. And if you understand the amount of pain we face everyday, you're a great fit. Today there are so many platforms to build for mobile, desktop, iPad (and) so many browsers to support (IE, FF, Chrome, Opera). Once you get beyond a user threshold, it's a real problem we have to solve. If you really want to learn how to cleverly build highly portable and compatible software, there is lots of stuff we have learned so far we want to share, and there would be even more you'd be telling us about, while you explore the seemingly impossible user-complaints.

Mobile devices person

How many platforms exist today to deploy a mobile solution? We've lost track. Sorry. Much of LAL's value is from mobility. Of course, people are with their mobile phones more often than they are in front of their computers (even laptops!). We know we have to be launching apps, extremely soon. Help us, please. You get to reach the volume of users 90% of apps in the app-store don't imagine. Ah, I didn't even mention the visitor loyalty.

Systems Person

We don't have automated deployment solutions, hardware load balancers, CDN solutions, and a thousand other things, that high traffic websites have yet. It's a ripe and good learning oppurtunity for you, if that's your thing.

Optimisation Person

Our load is growing rapidly everyday. We know ten caching tricks that would bring it down quite well, but don't have the time to do it. If you are interested in optimization, that's stricly focused on business value, there's something you can get here.
